According to estimates published by Forbes, the current highest-earning female tennis player is Serena Williams (USA), who reportedly earned $45.3 m (£35.8 m) in the 12 months up to 1 May 2023.

Williams was positioned 49th on the list of the Top 50 earning athletes, yet this still also made her the highest-earning female athlete overall. The only other tennis player in the report was Roger Federer (Switzerland), who was placed ninth with estimated earnings of $95.1 m (£74.6 m).

Williams retired from tennis in 2022, having secured the most Grand Slam singles titles of any player in the open era to date (24). Her income remained high as she still had endorsement deals with major brands such as Nike and Michelob Ultra. She also invests in her own venture capital fund Serena Ventures.

Broadening her repertoire outside sport, Williams set up the multimedia company Nine Two Six Productions in April 2023. Additionally, on screen she made a cameo appearance in the 2022 Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (USA).
