The most expensive toilet sold at auction was for $12.1 million (£9.27 million, €10.4 million), and was purchased by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! (USA) at a Sotheby's auction in New York, USA, on 18 November 2025.
Ripley's Believe It or Not! purchased the fully functional 18-karat gold working toilet sculpture titled "America", one of three, by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan for $12,110,000 USD. First unveiled at the Guggenheim Museum, this is the only remaining version of this sculpture, as one was stolen from Blenheim Palace in 2019.
