The most expensive album artwork sold at auction is the original image used for the cover of David Bowie's (UK) 1973 album Aladdin Sane taken by Brian Duffy (UK), which sold for £381,400 ($498,551) at Bonhams auction house in London, UK, on 5 November 2025.
The iconic image of Bowie with a red and blue lightning bolt across his face was taken during a studio session in London.
The original dye transfer artwork print had an estimate of £250,000-300,000. The buyer has not been named.
