Veteran naturalist and conservationist Sir David Attenborough, who turned 100 in May 2026, made his on-screen debut on segment Animal Disguises (UK), part of BBC Children's Television, on 2 September 1953. The fifth and final episode of his most recent series, Secret Garden (BBC, UK), was originally broadcast on 3 May 2026.
Animal Disguises was a spin-off of another 1953 series on BBC's Children's Television called Animal Patterns (UK), on which Attenborough worked behind the camera as a producer and director.
He is the only person to have won BAFTA awards for television series made in black and white, colour, HD and 3D formats.
