The most ASP/World Surf League world championships won by a female surfer is 8, achieved by Stephanie Gilmore (Australia) in 2007–10, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Gilmore battled through the top-five finals day at the Rip Curl WSL Finals at Lower Trestles in California, USA, defeating defending champion Carissa Moore two heats to nil to claim a record eight world title. Gilmore eclipsed the seven titles won by her compatriot Layne Beachley between 1998 and 2006. The ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) was formed in 1983. In 2015, it became the World Surf League.
