Michelle Macy (USA) swam across the North Channel from Northern Ireland to Scotland, UK, in 9 hours 34 minutes 39 seconds on 15 July 2013, as verified by the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association (ILDSA). The sea's temperature during the crossing was approximately 13°C (55°F).

As per ILDSA rules, the route must follow the Admiralty Chart 2198, Southern Part, which measures 18.6 nautical miles (21.5 miles; 35 kilometres).

Macy and her support boat piloted by Quinton Nelson departed from Donaghadee Harbour in Northern Ireland at 5 a.m. (BST) and arrived at the cliffs south of Portpatrick, Scotland, at just after 2 p.m.

The journey included several wildlife encounters, including an inquisitive seal dubbed "Curious George" that made several appearances, and numerous lion's mane jellyfish, which left their mark on the swimmer. According to Macy, one saving grace of the chilly sea temperature during the attempt was that she was so cold she couldn't feel the stings.
