Biggest emoji user on Instagram (country)

A study carried out in 2015 by researchers working for Instagram found that the country with the most prolific emoji users is Finland. The study analysed the content of text comments on the photo-sharing app, finding that 63% of comments made by Finnish users contained one or more emojis. In second place was France, where the figure is 50%, followed by the UK on 48%, Germany on 47%, and then Italy and Russia tied on 45%. Bottom of the table was Tanzania on 10%.

The study also found that by spring 2015, emojis were featuring in nearly 40% of all comments, a figure that has been steadily growing since the introduction of the emoji keyboard on mobile phones and tablets in 2011. The researchers speculate that if the trend continues, it won’t be long before emojis feature in almost all Instagram comments.
