Most expensive sofa

Israeli-born British artist Ron Arad's stainless steel "D" sofa is currently the most expensive sofa in the world. One of these sofas, from an edition of 20 originally priced at $300,000 each, realized $409,000 when sold at auction at Phillips de Pury, New York, on 13 December 2007. Arad began making artistic furniture in 1981, using parts found in scrapyards. His first success was the Rover chair (made using the seats from old Rover 200s), which he sold for £99 each. Among his first customers was Jean-Paul Gaultier, who bought six of them.
