Most popular Facebook music app

In March 2013, there were a reported 25.94 million monthly active users and 9.05 million daily active users of music-streaming service Spotify’s (Sweden) Facebook application, which allows users to “play, discover and share new music”. In November 2012, Music Week reported that 62.6 million songs had been played 22 billion times on Facebook music apps such as Spotify, Deezer and SoundCloud since their launch in September 2011, which equates to 210,000 years’ worth of music. Spotify’s Facebook app peaked at 26.8 million monthly active users in August 2012 and 9.1 million daily active users in November and December 2012.

Following the launch of Facebook’s music apps in September 2011, Spotify’s monthly and daily users were 3.98 million and 1.33 million, respectively.

Other popular music apps on Facebook include bandsintown, Deezer, iHeartRadio, ReverbNation, Shazam, Songza and SoundCloud, which attracts more than 5 million monthly active users. There are 82 dedicated music apps listed in Facebook’s App Centre, plus others listed under the Entertainment category.

David Guetta, Rihanna and Coldplay were named Spotify’s most popular male, female and group of 2012. Guetta’s Nothing But the Beat was the most popular and most shared album, while Gotye’s “Somebody that I Used to Know” was the most popular and most shared track. Adele was the most shared artist.
